Many in the Bay Area have followed recent events in Egypt closely, watching as the Egyptian people came together to topple the government of Hosni Mubarak. Among the stories coming out of that effort were scenes of Egyptian Christians and Muslims supporting and protecting each other, examples of how nonviolent actions make a difference, and hints of how technologies developed here in Silicon Valley like Facebook, Google, and Twitter, have changed how people organize and act together.
Members of the community are invited to join with representatives of the local Egyptian community, religious leaders from several different religious traditions, and friends and neighbors from Silicon Valley to celebrate the achievement of the Egyptian people, and to offer up prayers for the future of Egypt and its neighbors. The service, “Celebration and Prayer for the People of Egypt and Their Neighbors” will include prayers, special music, and reflections on what is happening in Egypt now and the implications for the future.
The event will take place Thursday evening, February 17, 2011, 7:30 – 9:00 pm at Campbell United Methodist Church, 1675 Winchester Blvd., Campbell. All are welcome.
The event is sponsored by the Silicon Valley Interreligious Council (SiVIC), a newly-forming cooperative venture that seeks to build relationships among religious communities, provide leadership and a voice for the interreligious community, and encourage shared action and service.
