Ramadan: A Time for (Interfaith) Hospitality

The Muslim month of Ramadan began last Saturday. During this month, Muslims fast from food and drink from sunup to sundown as a spiritual discipline and in remembrance of receiving the Qur’an.

Ramadan

Muslim families will often extend hospitality to their friends and neighbors during this time, and the evening meal (Iftar) after breaking the fast is a time for celebration and friendship.

It has been the custom among the mosques of the Bay Area to hold open-house iftars– inviting their non-Muslim neighbors to share in a meal, to learn more about Islam, and to strengthen relationships among the diverse peoples of our communities.

Again this year, there will be open house iftars around the Bay, including one sponsored by a Christian group at the United Methodist Church of Campbell. Contact information is provided below for more information about any of the iftars.
