The Sheikdom of Qatar recently hosted an interfaith conference which included more than a dozen rabbis, two from Israel, Christians and Muslims in a rare gathering. Responses were varied: the participants indicated it was an unusual and valuable opportunity for building relationships, while acknowledging that the Israel/Palestine issue did cause some disagreement. Citizens of Qatar similarly differed in their evaluations- some praise the conference as a mark of growing sophistication for their nation, while others bemoaned the “confusion” such a gathering might provoke among the people.
